In the second semester of my first year, we were challenged in our class 'Lab' to create a solution for a real-world problem. A solution For sustainable fashion.
We started with design thinking anda lot of research. What exactly is the problem? What issue is there to solve?
After we defined the problem, we started generating possible solutions in group. Using a lot of techniques, like dot voting, we got rid of all the common ideas.
Since we figured out people dont wear their clothes as often as they should, i figured out i should create a solution for that. I came up with Ourfit, a platform where people post the clothes in their wardrobes. That way other people can create outfits for them, giving the user more inspiration on how to style pieces in a fun way, that makes them wear the clothes they wouldn't wear. That is Ourfit to put it simply.
We started the prototyping phase, and created our low-, med-, and hi-fi design, followed by developping the core of the platform.
Tweaking in-between after doing some usertests and just like that Ourfit was created.
Ourfit is a platform where people can post their clothes, friends, family and other users can make outfits for other people. You can highlight a piece to mark them as 'in need of inspiration'. That way other people can keep this in mind when creating an outfit. After seeing outfits created by other people, users can feel inspired, seeing the way other people look differently at a piece than they do. The same goes for people creating outfits for others. They are challenged with a completely different wardrobe, a completely different style, completely different pieces. They will have to puzzle with unfamiliat pieces, inspiring them to create new ways of thinking about the closet of their own. An exchange of inspiration is a fun way I like to think of this platform.
I really enjoyed working on this project. Tho the beginning felt really slow, after the prototyping phase, everything went really fast.
Considering this was my first project combining design and development, and it being my first year, I am happy with the way Ourfit turned out. Looking at it now, i do see some flaws, design and development wise.
If i were to start over again, I think the one thing I would do differently is the techniques I used, and consistently use those (especially in Figma). I would also design my own symbols, because right now Ourfit has different styles, which is one of the feedbacks that I got on the big inspiration day at our campus.
